The action of the novel by Selma Lagerl?f "Miracles of the Antichrist" takes place at the end of the 19th century in Sicily. The book condemns socialism as an anti-Christian ideology that rejects faith in God and encourages people to create a "paradise on earth". The plot revolves around two sculptural images of Christ — one image is real, miraculous, and the other is fake, bearing the inscription "My kingdom is only on earth" and symbolizing the godless socialist teaching. It is this false image that becomes the object of worship, people attribute to his miracles, which then turn out to be false "miracles of the Antichrist".
