"Repentance letter" — an explanation of a famous revolutionary, a member of the Central Committee first of "Land and Liberty" and then of "People’s Will" ("Narodnaya Volya"), terrorist Lev Tikhomirov, who fled abroad in 1882, but in 1888 abruptly changed his views and became an opponent of the revolution. He was forgiven, returned to Russia and became a well-known conservative philosopher and monarchist. The appearance of this book caused an explosion in the Russian revolutionary movement: openly opposing his previous ideas, Tikhomirov argues that a revolution in Russia is impossible and that people with a progressive way of thinking must strive for peaceful evolution. However, this publication was banned for import into Russia. Rare book.

Condition: The edges of the cover and of a number of pages restored, gluing, scuffing.
